Our Zen meditation class, including Dharma talk and temple tour, is offered according to the schedule above. Each class is 90 minutes and lead in English by the deputy head priest, Rev. Taka Kawakami. He explains how to incorporate Zen Buddhist philosophy and meditation into your everyday life by using religious, philosophical, and neuroscientific concepts.

1. 10 minutes instruction of Zen meditation
2. two 15-minutes meditation sessions
3. explanation of gardens and screen paintings at the temple

Shunkoin Temple's Prayer Hall

We provide various ceremonies in this prayer hall, like Buddhist holiday ceremonies and wedding services. Those screen painting were painted by Eigaku Kano, who was one of the grand master of the Kano school. Those are painted in the early 19th century and haven't had any restoration works.

Zen Meditation Class "How to Live in a Moment" & Special Annual Ceremony this Weekend

June 18th
No class due to the 'kannon senbo', the confession of the wrongdoing to the Bodhisattva at the Myoshinji Temple's ceremonial gate (the huge red gate by the Buddha Hall) between 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM. On this day, you can go up to the top of the gate to see the ceremony, the statues of Bodhisattva and lohans, and the painting on the walls and ceiling. This happens once a year (on June 18th every year).

今週末の「よくわかる座禅会」は6月19日(日)のみ



「よくわかる座禅会:今の生き方と守・破・離」

仏教における世界観(特に、因果応報や無常)の本来の意味と「守破離」を理解し、「今を生き方」を学ぶことにより、精神的な負のスパイラルから抜け出すことを助けます。また座禅の伝統の中に隠された実用的な理由を理解し、また宗教・哲学的な理解だけでなく、座禅中に実際どのようなことが脳で起きているのかということを知ることにより、日常生活に禅の考えと座禅を取り込むことができます。

伝統の中に隠された実用的・実践的な理由を知ることにより、より仏教・禅が分かりやすくなります。

また座禅後に、狩野永岳による襖絵、方丈の前庭、重要文化財 南蛮寺の鐘をご覧いただきます。

また、京都市バスの91系統と京都バスの61、62、63系統の場合は「妙心寺前」バス停で下車、京都市バスの10、26系統の場合は「妙心寺北門前」バス停で下車。

The radiation levels in Kyoto and Tokyo have been stable. Kyoto has no influence from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

「よくわかる座禅会:今の生き方と守・破・離」

仏教における世界観(特に、因果応報や無常)の本来の意味と「守破離」を理解し、「今を生き方」を学ぶことにより、精神的な負のスパイラルから抜け出すことを助けます。また座禅の伝統の中に隠された実用的な理由を理解し、また宗教・哲学的な理解だけでなく、座禅中に実際どのようなことが脳で起きているのかということを知ることにより、日常生活に禅の考えと座禅を取り込むことができます。

伝統の中に隠された実用的・実践的な理由を知ることにより、より仏教・禅が分かりやすくなります。

また座禅後に、狩野永岳による襖絵、方丈の前庭、重要文化財 南蛮寺の鐘をご覧いただきます。

「よくわかる座禅会:今の生き方と守・破・離」

仏教における世界観(特に、因果応報や無常)の本来の意味と「守破離」を理解し、「今を生き方」を学ぶことにより、精神的な負のスパイラルから抜け出すことを助けます。また座禅の伝統の中に隠された実用的な理由を理解し、また宗教・哲学的な理解だけでなく、座禅中に実際どのようなことが脳で起きているのかということを知ることにより、日常生活に禅の考えと座禅を取り込むことができます。

伝統の中に隠された実用的・実践的な理由を知ることにより、より仏教・禅が分かりやすくなります。
